A member asked:

My girlfriend started bleeding 2 weeks prior to her normal menstrual cycle, should we be concerned?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

If your partner is over 40, mid-cycle bleeding can occur secondary to ovulation of more than one egg, which raises the estrogen levels prior to sudden drop in estrogen prior to ovulation, allowing breakdown of endometrial lining, causing bleeding. If pregnancy is possible, and menses are delayed, obtain a serum HCG test to be certain about pregnancy.
