Muscle cramps are common after dialysis, due to shifts in water and electrolyte balance. Your nephrologist or other dialysis provider is the one to ask about ways to perhaps alter the dialysis program to prevent it, or for advice on treatment. Good luck.

Usually cramp due to fluid loss with dialysis occurs in the last 15 minutes of the treatment when your volume is lowest but it may happen on that night if you are taking certain medication(s) which make you vulnerable to cramping such as statin for high cholesterol or calcium channel medication for hypertension. Your attending nephrologist can help you. Please talk to him when he makes round.
