I have a slightly smaller then a gold ball size mass on lower back, left of spine. it feels pretty hard. does not move, no pain or anything i notice. any idea what it can be and what specific doctor i would see?

Would select a dermatologist. Your mass could be a lipoma, which is indeed benign, and seems this could be done electively, and not emergently, unless the mass suddenly changes dramatically.

One possibility is a sebaceous cyst. Please see your doc. He/she will take care of things for you. Please don't let your mind run away w/possibilities. Peace and good health.

This could be a lipoma or a cyst. Your general doctor should be able to help. Otherwise, I'd seen an orthopedic or general surgeon or dermatologist.
