A member asked:

Can a swab in the vagina be a way you can test if that person has hsv 2 or a blood test is needed as well?

A swab of the suspected lesion is sufficient.

If a lesion was swabed and tested for the virus, that would be okay, but a vaginal swab is not the usual way to diagnose HSV 2. Antibody tests tells if you had infection, not if the infection is active. A person with HSV 2 can shed virus even when there are no eruptions or sores. Get HPV vaccine.
