Hormonal disturbance: Mirena is a contraceptive that contains a type of progesterone. Progesterone only contraceptives work to prevent ovulation and the buildup of the uterine lining by causing a decrease in the estrogen levels in your body. Without the uterine lining, there is no menstrual flow (which is the sloughing of the uterine lining). New onset spotting may reflect a hormonal disturbance. Talk to your Dr.
