This depends on the quality of obstetric care. Since the drug Rhogam was introduced in the 1960's the problem of RH babies has become an easier to manage issue with good outcome for most. The drug, an immune globulin given during pregnancy stops the injury to baby from any Rh problems. If it is not available there can still be risk.

A Rh negative mother and Rh positive father can have a Rh negative baby. An Rh positive person may be heterozygous and half the sperms are Rh positive and half are negative.
