If you have a rh negative father and rh positive mother, is the unborn child at risk? can it complicate the pregnancy?

No: Rh incompatibility only occurs when mother is rh negative and baby is rh positive, which can only occur if father is rh positive. Even so it is not very common. Thus rh -ve mothers are always safe with regards to rh incompatibility.
