Possibilities...: If the cough is due to infection, you will likely have other symptoms like nasal congestion, sore throat, discolored sputum, fever, etc. If the cough is due to allergy, these symptoms are likely to be absent. If there is any doubt, and so it can be treated, see your doctor. I see you are a non-smoker but try to avoid second-hand smoke as well.
