"Itchy red bumps" can be what is called a "delayed hypersensitivity" reaction to exposure to detergents, even if you have used the same detergent for years. The areas affected tend to be those of direct contact on bedclothes, and contact is often dependent on areas of perspiration during sleep. "Tide" detergent is a common cause. Try Ivory Snow, or increase rinse cycle on washing machine.

sounds like they are hives or urticaria. If worsen or you develop diff breathing, see your doc asap. Otherwise try some antihistamine such as benadryl. If no improvement, see a dermatologist.
