A member asked:

I have chronic fatigue immune dysfunction. it was triggered after meningitis. i see a specialist. i'm now hyper sensitive to things (even foods). does parents dna factor into this? or could an illness have triggered cfs regardless of my dna make up?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Biological variation is common in humans, and your genetic and immunological makeup provide susceptibility to your outcome. But, as has been seen with COVID-19, fatigue is far from an uncommon sequela, and I have seen months of fatigue and emotional changes after both meningitis and encephalitis, from viral and bacterial causes. Likely depends upon magnitude of brain effect. (burden of disease)
