A member asked:

Is it common to have a +3 for microscopic blood on a urinalysis if period just ended the day before? even if the last day of period was super light? all other urinalysis categories were negative and bun and creatinine were normal. other possibility?

It is difficult to avoid contamination of a urine specimen by menstrual blood still present at the vaginal orifice unless scrupulous attention is given to obtain a "clean catch" specimen. Microscopic red cells can easily cause a "+3" presence in such a specimen, without any of the red cells originating in the bladder, but repeat the U/A and make sure the urethra is free of blood.

Contamination of urine with vaginal fluid could lead to such findings. Visit this site for instructions for a clean catch: https://www.healthline.com/health/urine-culture-clean-catch#procedure
