A member asked:

What's the difference in strength between otc retinol products and those that must be purchased by rx/through a dermatologist's office?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Tazarotene is the strongest retinoid and is only available on Rx. OTC products are available in multiple strengths from 0.25. O.3, 0.5 and 1%. The amount needed for effect without the deep reddening side effect will vary with skin type. Typically best to use the correct strength for need, but this may take some trial and error. Plus there are various additives, and cream vs gel to consider.
