The Mirena IUD can control heavy periods , but can shift in location due to uterine contractions, becoming wedged in the cervical canal will also cause pain, and prolonged bleeding. See your gyn provider for an exam and other testing (ultrasound) to determine the location of the IUD, which may require removal/reinsertion.
