Agree with Dr. Ferranti: Your doctor can prescribe pills to limit your period to once a year. In the meantime, start exercising. Begin with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity so that you sweat profusely. It may take a few months for the full effect. Wish you good health!

Some of my patients with this type of premenstrual syndrome have been helped by taking a mild diuretic several days or a week before their period. I'm of the opinion that a degree of fluid retention caused by hormonal changes affects the brain resulting in varied emotional reactions.
