A member asked:

There is a 9% difference between my fraternal twins at 20w gestation. one baby is 11oz & the other is 12oz. does this sound normal for twins? i thought the weights were great then the tech we need to continue monitoring closely for the difference???

Any twin pregnancy will reveal a difference between sizes of the twins (fraternal or identical). Periodic ultrasound will certainly be useful in determining when to deliver your twins, and if premature delivery could be anticipated. A one ounce disparity in estimated weight is not unusual.

There are always special issues with twins. The weight difference may or may not increase. One babies placenta can take up more space/provides better nutrition. When/if the size difference becomes too great the delivery date may be moved up. Regular monitoring with an ultrasound gives the doc data to work with. I think you are getting great care.
