A member asked:

Is carbon dioxide poisoning a painful death? what happens to the body as it breaks down from the fumes?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Do you NOT mean carbon MONOXIDE? ("fumes"). In general replaces normal hemoglobin function with carbon-monoxy-hemoglobin, resulting in relative oxygen deprivation. It is NOT painful, and that is why it can be insidious, and the victim is not fully aware.
