A member asked:

Is there a treatment for pigmentation due to macular amyloidosis? i have pigmentation on my back, legs and arms but not itchy (it used to be). doc says its a mild form of macular amyloidosis. can this be cured?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

I assume you have no evidence of primary amyloidosis as caused by a plasma cell bone marrow disease causing abnormal immunoglobulin light chains in the serum eventually causing kidney, heart, peripheral nerves, skin (&many other organs) to be damaged by amyloid deposits. I have seen one case whose macular amyloid deposits in the skin disappeared after chemotherapy. Localized MA more common in India
