Fainting when standing is typically a sign orthostatic hypotension which refers to lack of adequate pressure to maintain blood flow to the brain when faced with increased force of gravity. This occurs with severe dehydration or anemia from bleeding and always represents a serious medical problem. The affected person should be seen by her doctor or go to the emergency department when it happens.
