No one will deny you pain management after a surgery. They do need to know you are taking opioids or you may not get adequate pain relief. However, they may delay your surgery until you see a pain specialist about your chronic usage. Do not keep this type of information from the doctors. It can even affect your anesthesia and what is used, so do not withhold information about any medicines used.

Absolutely reveal all medications you are using especially a narcotic. Pain management during and after surgery can be very troublesome if you have developed some opioid tolerance, and your physicians are unaware. Discuss this in detail with both surgeon and anesthesiologist.
