A member asked:

I have been suffering from obsessive thoughts recently mixed with high anxiety, ive been taking klonopin 0.5mg/day and has been working perfectly. now the doctor wants to put me on paroxetine although no depression in my case...your opinion?

It sounds like your doctor is looking for a longer term solution to help with your anxiety. Klonopin is a benzodiazepine and ideally is not used long term as it has both tolerance and addiction potential. Paroxetine is an SSRI medication which may be used both in depression and generalized anxiety. It would be best to circle back to your physician to understand their perspective.

Your doctor is smart to take you off of Klonopin because it is better for short-term - not long-term use. Selective Serotonin Reuptake inhibitors (SSRI's) would be good choice for anxiety, depression or obsessive compulsive disorder. I don't know which SSRI's are available in Morocco - something like Lexapro or Celexa might have fewer side effects than paroxetine.
