A member asked:

Hi dr. would a 4th gen hiv test (clia) be positive at d30 for someone infected with hiv and co-infected with cmv/hcv? since seroconversion is delayed, would p24 antigen be detected at day 30 post exposure? thanks?

There are no medical conditions or drugs known to delay positive results of the HIV antigen-antibody (4th generation) blood tests, including CMV or HCV. The reported association with HCV is not conclusive; if valid, it only affects HIV antibody, not p24 antigen and therefore not the AgAb blood tests. A negative HIV AgAb test is always 98-99% reliable at 30 days (100% at 6 or more weeks).
