A member asked:

Ive been taking 65mg of iron a day for the last 4 weeks. i dont have very low iron levels but been tired lately & read iron could help. i was reading and got concerned as i saw this could be lethal. should i see my doctor? am i poisoning myself?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Iron deficiency is common in women due to menstrual bleeding. If iron is taken in excess, there can be toxicity. Diseases of aging such as Alzheimer’s disease, other neurodegenerative diseases, arteriosclerosis, diabetes mellitus have been linked to excess iron. Those doses are not fatal. See your doctor, for clarity of your situation.
