Dating cannot be done by hCG levels. Normal increase in hCG varies between 25 mIU/mL and 7500 mIU/mL during the first 5 weeks. It differs in each pregnancy. The best test to use for dating a pregnancy is the transvaginal ultrasound done at 5 weeks, then again at 12-14 weeks. The ultrasound can also detect if there is a heartbeat and proper development.
