IUD's placed after vaginal birth can be pushed into the cervical canal with the post-partum uterine contractions, and if one can feel the "plastic" stem, the IUD is not in the correct place to render contraception dependably. While breast feeding, it is not unusual to suspend ovulation, but see your OB physician to remove the current IUD and insert a new one to be safer.
