A member asked:

6 weeks postpartum, i'm breastfeeding and i just noticed i'm spotting. i do have regular periods is this normal? i was told i wasn't going to get my period while breastfeeding is that true?

Lactation Amenorrhea: Lactational amenorrhea ( no periods during postpartum period) occurs when a mother is exclusively breastfeeding and baby is under 6 months of age. This occurs in 98% of women. You might be experiencing spotting if you are not exclusively breastfeeding or the 2% of women who ovulate and have periods. Do not rely on lactational amenorrhea as a form of birth control if you are spotting.
