A member asked:

For correction of a varicocele, is an ir embolization approach able to block veins at the bottom of the scrotum such as gubernacular veins or external spermatic veins or can this only be done via surgery?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Percutaneous embolization can be done after identifying the veins leading to varicocele by use of x-ray contrast and then plugs with or without sclerosant are used to block the veins. Surgery is preferable over embolization. Embolization has potential for complication of coil moving away or infection.. both the procedures have the chances of recurrence.
