Ive been taking alka seltzer every few days since finding out i was pregnant. i am now 14weeks and all scans with mfm/ob & cell free blood work normal. is it possible alka seltzer caused birth defects? im so nervous, i didnt realize it was a risk?

No Birth Defects: Alka Seltzer does not cause birth defects. Some formulations contain aspirin which can cause bleeding problems in pregnancy. Avoid Alka Seltzer for this reason and switch to Tums (calcium carbonate formulation not aluminum hydroxide) for your indigestion. If nausea is a big problem for you during your first trimester or beyond, talk to your OB.
