A member asked:

Can doing heavy back squats make me shorter? i am wondering since you are putting a bar with hundreds of pounds on your back , so i was wondering if it compressed the spine and made me shorter. i am 23 so a fully grown adult ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Weight lifting does not compress the spine and, in fact, probably makes the muscles that support the spine stronger - just, like everything else, don’t overdo.
