A member asked:

I took a 2nd generation rapid hiv test 9 months after possible exposure and it was negative. should i rely on this result?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Probably but ...: A 2nd generation test is an antibody-only test. It is rapid and inexpensive. Depending on the manufacturer a negative test can be 90-99% accurate. If still anxious, get a 4th generation test. If this is negative you don’t have HIV, for sure.
