A member asked:

Baby of 1 year swallowed a wooden button. no signs of distress and swallowing liquid well etc. how long should i wait to see if it passes through and out of her system? if it doesnt come out should i be taking her to a dr for x-rays or anything?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Wait 1 week : If the button is wooden, not metallic, it will not show up on an X-ray. If she is breathing and swallowing liquids and solids normally, you do not need to worry. She will likely poop it out within a week. When a child swallows a small object about the size of a dime, it passes right through. The only really dangerous things are button cell batteries and magnets.
