Gradually : Compression stockings help prevent blood clots in your legs. Although unlikely, these may form while you’re at bed rest immediately after the operation. As you walk more the danger decreases. If you’re now up and walking normally you can decrease (not stop) using them. Check with your doctor

Please wear them at all times, as blood clots in the legs can travel to the lungs creating a life threatening condition called pulmonary embolism.
