SBS: If you're referring to open heart surgery, SBS refers to a simplified bypass system which allows the cardiac surgeon to operate on the heart without completely paralyzing the heart as is done with a non beating heart bypass where the pump totally performs circulation of blood during surgery. 50% chance of survival sounds particularly dire and must indicate that the patient's condition is very weak
