A member asked:

Can aortic stenosis cause a mildly dilated left atrium? can the atrium go back to normal after valve replacement?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

LAE: Left atrial enlargement is actually common in aortic valvular stenosis but not as severe as in mitral valvular regurgitation or longstanding hypertension. This is why I feel that atrial fibrillation is less common with simple aortic stenosis compared to those other causes of LAE. Aortic valve replacement should allow the LAE to regress.
