Outpatient exam: Go to clinic that has x ray capability is easiest. Can also try virtual visit with physician and follow up with scheduled x ray based on physician recommendation. Not an injury suitable for home care in many cases if fracture present. Want to insure maintaining best function of hand so get evaluation by professional and x ray can be done at off site facility away from hospital if needed .

Injury: Recommend resting the hand. Can put ice packs on it - if it is a fresh injury. Elevating the hand/ arm can help prevent swelling. Compression can also help. However, if you have severe pain & lack of function, most urgent care centers and Emergency rooms i the US, have excellent infection control in place.

May need x-ray: You need to balance the risk and benefit of visiting a hospital for an evaluation. Wearing a mask will largely protect you from Covid. Not getting evaluated could result in mal-union or non-union, if there is a fracture. Wish you good health!
