Could an oct scan pick up any swelling of the optic nerve? eg for ruling out neurological disorders?

Optic Nerve: Swelling of the optic nerve is detected by funduscopic exam (the doctor looks at the back of your eye with a funduscope). CT is reserved for patients with symptoms, not a screening exam .

Limitations: Optical coherence tomography is a terrific tool to assess retinal nerve fiber layers, and to visualize macula, fovea, and distal parts of optic nerve, but not retro-orbital or beyond. If swelling is due to retro-orbital optic neuritis, it would not be seen in these films.
