A member asked:

Why does my chest bone make cracking noises when i stretch my back backwards?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Back cracking : This is normally a result of gasses, encased by a sack of fluid surrounding the joints of the back, coming quickly out under the pressure of compression or gapping of the joint. Somewhat like the sound of opening a soda can. There is also the possibility that there is arthritis contributing to this.
