A member asked:

Is it true that a1c can jump from 5.2 to 6.0 if eating unhealthy in only 2 months?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Rise in A1c : The A1c rises from two common issues genes that control sugar levels combined with eating habits. We base the A1c on the turnover of red blood cells(RBC) . So the A1c is also affected by increases or decreases in their RBC turnover. Some anemias or other RBC disorders also affect the A1c independent of sugar levels. Another test to evaluate sugar is fructosamine which is independent of RBCs
