Basics: It sounds like he has a stomach bug & these often self heal. Ice chips & slow sips of water or hydration fluids help. If he retains enough fluid to pee every 8 hrs he can be monitored at home. If not or he really spooks you have him seen. He was likely incubating this while at the visit, which would seldom be evident on exam.
