Does vitamin d help fight covid-19?

Don’t know : Vitamin D has been associated with improved immunity and recent literature has suggested decrease risk of contracting covid with adequate levels. However, taking vitamin D does not mean you can avoid the existing recommendations of mask, social distance, hand washing, avoiding crowds. Cannot verify that it will, improve outcomes if you have already contracted Covid-19. You can test vit D levels.

Role of Vit D: Increasing evidence points to value of vitamin D in COVID-19. Adequate serum levels appear to decrease risk of infection and severity if acquired, but is not an effective treatment if supplemented during an infection. This fat soluble vitamin takes weeks to months to distribute in the adipose tissue. Blood level goals should aim for maximal hydroxy-vitamin D between 50-70 ng/ml.

Immune & coagulation system function with Vitamin D. Vitamin D levels below 30 (30-100 normal), may be lethal in COVID. Levels over 40 rarely die. Vitamin D is fat soluble, so: A. Dosage is 100 IU per Kg per day. (*Obesity & high death in COVID). B. Vitamin D level is checked 5 days after last usage when fatty tissue is saturated.
