Prolonged periods ?: Prolonged bleeding (10-20 days) is abnormal, and should be evaluated by a gyn physician. This can occur for multiple reasons (uterine polyps, polycystic ovarian syndrome) . Your physician may order a pelvic ultrasound and other testing. Ask about low dose oral contraceptives, which should control both the bleeding and irregular menstruation.
