14 days before mense: Ovulation occurs 14 days before the onset of menses, so you need to look back at your periods and count back average numbers of days from the start of one period to the next. If your periods are 28 days apart - then you ovulate on day 14 and should start having intercourse on days 12 or 13, and every other day for several days to not miss your fertile window. You can use ovulation prediction kits.

Mid cycle: If your periods are regular, you would be ovulating about 2 weeks before the next period starts. For most women that would also be about 2 weeks after the last period started. The time of ovulation is the most fertile time.
