The fetus can become: Non viable before u start to bleed , in some cases it can be weeks between the time the fetus dies and u start bleeding so if u are worried your OB need to do an OB ultraosound as u should be able to see a ht beat of tehefetus at 6 1/2 weeks gestation, once a non viable fetus is diagnosed teh contents needs to be removed whether u are already bleeding or not.
