Possible: Insect bites are possible but need to make sure it is not ringworm. Your description fits ringworm well. It is a highly contagious fungal infection of the skin and scalp spread by contact. Can be itchy and get crusty. It is treated with topical anti fungals like Lotrimin, Miconazole, or several others.
