Hacking cough: If you had a recent headcold or viral upper respiratory tract infection this cough may be due to tracheal involvement. Absence of fever is reassuring for absence of covid infection or pneumonia. At this time I recommend a cough suppressant like DM or codeine as tracheal irritation/inflammation won't produce much sputum and the more you cough, the more tracheal irritation there is.
