HSV1 antibody test: Around one third of people with HSV1 infections never develop positive blood tests for it. Typical cold sores are blister-like sores on the outside of the lip or nearby on the face, which become pimple-like and then scab over. IF that's what you had, you should assume you have HSV1 despite the blood test result. Sores inside the mouth usually are canker sores, not cold sores (and not HSV1).
