Would breathing be harder when laying down if someone had heart failure?

Possibly...: During heart failure, fluid can accumulate in the lungs when the heart cannot pump the blood forward, out of the lungs. If there is enough fluid, when one lies flat, the fluid can move up in the chest, making breathing more difficult. Sitting the person more upright helps them to breathe easier. There are other disease where breathing would be more difficult lying down so see your doctor for eval.
