Severe GERD: So sorry to hear that, not sure what all they did at the ER but seems like he needs to be on a proton pump inhibitor twice a day along with dietary precautions. May also need an endoscopy if it persists. Also depends on what started it and if he is having any ppother symptoms. He will need to go back to the ER for further evaluation and imaging if he is unable to keep things down.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. I trust that he not abusing any drugs, If he is overweight, for the long term losing weight would be essential. It would be prudent to see a doctor or go to the ER immediately. Wish you good health!

GI/admission: He most likely requires a GI admission to the hospital, for additional testing and treatment. The testing may include an endoscopy. Offer sips of water and ice chips, and please see the ED ( same or different hospital). Rutgers is one option.
