Baker’s cycle : Pain behind the knee is most likely a bakers cyst which occurs secondary to osteoarthritis. They beige and very commonly rupture on their own without serious consequence. Other causes of posterior knee pain can be arthritis, thrombophlebitis or torn cartilage.

Knee pain: Do you recall a specific injury that could have resulted in a torn cartilage? A strained ligament should have healed by now. Other possibilities of pain in the posterior portion of the knee joint include arthritis,tendinitis, Worn down cartilage, or a Baker's cyst. I recommend consulting an orthopedic surgeon for evaluation,testing and treatment. An xray and/or an MRI may be recommended.
