I had my thyroid levels tested in sept 2012 and showed hypo i have been taking levothyroxine since then. i had my thyroid checked again last week and its normal. do i need to continue taking my meds?

YES.: The reason your thyroid measures normal on recheck is because of the daily supplement you have been taking to replace what your thyroid gland is not producing. The normal test means you are on the correct dose and need to keep taking it.

Yes: Your thyroid hormone level is normal because you are taking the replacement hormone by mouth. If you stop the pill, your thyroid hormone level will almost certainly fall again. It's important to have a periodic check of your thyroid hormone blood level and TSH periodically to make sure the dosage you are taking is optimal. Too little and you remain hypothyroid. Too much can lead to osteoporosis.
