I am weaning off prozac. i was on 40mg for the past 4-5 years. my doctor advised me to taper 10mg per week. is this too fast? also, she said we could add lexapro while tapering. is this safe to do and will this help curb discontinuation symptoms?

Safe: This sounds like an appropriate tapering regimen for Prozac. Lexapro is a similar drug, an SSRI, (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor), so this should be a safe course of therapy for you, and may lessen or eliminate the withdrawal feeling associated with cessation of Prozac.
